Hungrybox Triumphs at Genesis X2, Ends Three-Year Major Drought

Juan "Hungrybox" DeBiedma ended his long dry spell at Genesis X2, capturing the Melee Championship and marking his first super major victory in nearly three years. The Team Liquid player, known for his iconic Jigglypuff, had a dramatic run through the tournament, facing top-tier competitors on his way to the Grand Finals. This win also gave Hungrybox his first Genesis title in six years, the last one coming back in 2019.

 

Hungrybox's journey to victory wasn’t without its challenges. After a strong start in the Winners Bracket, he faced a tough loss to Justin "Wizzrobe" Hallett in the Winners Semifinals, a player who has historically been a tough opponent for him.

 

 The loss sent Hungrybox to the Losers Bracket, where he managed to rebound and defeat his longtime rival Joseph "Mang0" Marquez before setting up a highly anticipated rematch with Wizzrobe in the Losers Finals.

 

The rematch with Wizzrobe was intense, with the two battling it out in one of the most thrilling Melee matches of all time. The final game came down to a nail-biting moment, where Hungrybox clinched the win with a perfectly timed Rest, securing his place in the Grand Finals.

 

His emotional celebration on stage was a testament to the struggle and determination it took to reach that point, with Hungrybox overwhelmed by the moment and the long-awaited victory.

 

In the Grand Finals, Hungrybox faced Spain’s top Peach player, Alvaro "Trif" Garcia Moral, in a grueling five-game series. After an exhausting battle, Hungrybox sealed the win with two 3-1 victories, breaking into tears as he realized he had secured the championship. His emotional reaction was shared by fans and fellow players alike, including Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman, who had been coaching Hungrybox for this very moment.

 

Hungrybox celebrated the win with a heartfelt message to his followers, encouraging them to never give up and announcing the Hungry Games, a series of online tournaments with prize money from his Genesis X2 win.
