HSBC announces strategic partnership with T1 Esports

Posted : 05 March 2024

HSBC, the global financial services company, has unveiled a strategic collaboration with South Korean esports organization T1, emphasizing the promotion of HSBC One, its Hong Kong-targeted bank account.

T1’s League of Legends team will be a focal point in the marketing initiatives, with plans for an exclusive fan event in September, offering a chance for HSBC One account holders to meet the team during their visit to Hong Kong.

This unique opportunity will be determined through a lucky draw, with additional event details to be revealed in May. The partnership is anticipated to introduce a series of esports activations and surprises extending beyond traditional banking, as hinted in the collaboration announcement video.

The promotional efforts extend to T1’s League of Legends roster prominently featured on HSBC One’s website, utilizing terms like ‘Rapid Reflex’ and ‘Legendary Assist’ to explain the account's benefits and reward schemes.

HSBC's engagement with the esports industry is not new, as the company's UK branch previously established a significant partnership with EXCEL ESPORTS (now GAINTX) in 2021, focusing on financial literacy education for esports fans.

Additionally, HSBC entered a collaboration with esports media platform ONE Esports in 2022, concentrating on Malaysia and Indonesia. HSBC UK also partnered with Esports Insiders' events division for ESI London.

Choosing T1’s League of Legends roster for the Hong Kong-centric collaboration aligns with the team’s global popularity, especially in Asia.

As the current League of Legends world champions, T1 consistently ranks high in viewership across the LCK, the franchised South Korean League of Legends league, maintaining a presence in the top 5 most viewed matches for the 2024 LCK Spring Split, according to Esports Charts.
