G2 Esports Stuns Team Vitality to Claim BLAST Open London 2025 Title

Posted : 08 September 2025

G2 Esports delivered a stunning performance at the BLAST Open London 2025, defeating Team Vitality in the grand final to secure its first major trophy of the year. The victory, held at the OVO Arena Wembley, came after G2 overturned a 2-1 deficit in the best-of-five series, eventually sealing the title with a commanding 13-6 win on Train. The triumph earned the team $150,000 (around £110,933) in prize money.

For Team Vitality, the result extends a frustrating wait for silverware, with the squad still chasing its first tier-one tournament victory since the BLAST Austin Major in June 2025. Despite coming close, Vitality faltered at the decisive moment as G2 clawed back from the brink, forcing overtime in the fourth map before dominating the series decider.

Prior to this win, G2’s 2025 campaign had been underwhelming, with finishes typically around the top eight in international competitions. Their only previous final appearance came at PGL Bucharest, where they were swept 3-0 by Team Falcons. That context made the London victory all the more meaningful, as it showcased the resilience and determination of the roster to deliver when it mattered most.

The success capped off a strong weekend for the organisation, with G2 also securing qualification for the League of Legends World Championship, further strengthening its reputation across multiple esports titles.

However, this year’s BLAST Open Fall saw a notable dip in audience numbers. Esports Charts data revealed peak viewership of 701,545, nearly 200,000 fewer than the 2024 edition, which surpassed 900,000. Average viewership also declined by about 100,000, although the longer tournament format generated more total watch hours, with an additional 40 hours of broadcast time compared to last year.

The result in London could significantly impact the VRS rankings. G2, sitting 15th as of September, is expected to climb higher after this win, while Vitality may struggle to reclaim the top spot in October as Team Spirit failed to qualify for the offline event.

Attention now turns to the next major event, the BLAST Rivals Fall, scheduled for November in Hong Kong at the AsiaWorld-Expo. The competition will feature four teams invited via the October VRS rankings alongside four wildcard entries representing Europe, North and South America, and Asia.
