FIA unveils worldwide sim racing esports for women, girls

Posted : 24 April 2025

The FIA, the global authority overseeing motorsports, has introduced a new esports competition aimed at women and girls aged 16 and above. This initiative is called the FIA Girls of Track Esports Cup and is held in collaboration with Advanced SimRacing, a company that manufactures racing simulation rigs, and iRacing, a popular sim racing platform. The competition is open to all women and girls within the specified age group, regardless of their previous experience in esports.

Participants interested in competing must register for the event through the FIA’s official website. Additionally, they must have an active iRacing account to join the competition. Online qualifiers for the event are already underway, with the first stage focusing on achieving the fastest lap in the iRacing Time Attack. The qualification round will close on May 6th.

After the online qualifiers, the top 10 performers will be invited to compete in Macau during the 2025 FIA Extraordinary General Assemblies Week, set for June. These finalists will participate in a multi-day, in-person final, where the inaugural FIA Girls of Track Esports Cup champion will be crowned.

In addition to the competition, the 10 finalists will benefit from valuable exposure to the motorsport industry. They will attend media training workshops and have the opportunity to network with professionals in the field, gaining insight into the motorsport world.

Niroshan Pereira, President of the FIA Esports Commission, expressed the organization’s belief in the future potential of esports. He emphasized the importance of encouraging more women and girls to participate in the sport to foster growth and development in the discipline. “We hope this competition will inspire aspiring racers to explore motorsports and potentially pursue careers in the industry,” he said.

This marks the first time that the FIA’s Girls of Track initiative has expanded into esports. Previously, the program was best known for the FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars, which helped young female drivers from 2020 to 2023 by offering them opportunities in motorsport.

The FIA’s launch of this women-focused esports competition is a clear indication of its growing commitment to the gaming world. In addition to this new competition, the FIA also made headlines last year with the introduction of the FIA Esports Code, a regulatory framework designed to govern sim racing competitions.
