EWCF and Call of Duty League Announce Multi-Year Partnership

Posted : 09 December 2024

The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF), the organizer of the Esports World Cup, has formalized a multi-year partnership with the Call of Duty League. This collaboration is set to shape the competitive landscape for the next three years, with an extended calendar for the 2025 season.

As part of the agreement, the Call of Duty League will continue its competitive schedule into August 2025, coinciding with the Esports World Cup's return to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, next summer.

The partnership includes notable changes to the 2025 game lineup, with Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops replacing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. In 2024, Atlanta FaZe triumphed in the Modern Warfare III tournament, which featured a $1.8 million prize pool.

Similarly, Team Falcons claimed victory in the Warzone tournament, competing for a $1 million prize. These changes reflect the EWCF's commitment to evolving the tournament structure while maintaining significant rewards for its competitors.

Last year, Call of Duty was among the standout franchises featured in the Esports World Cup, contributing to the event's expansion to 22 tournaments. The 2024 edition also showcased popular titles such as Counter-Strike, League of Legends, and Honor of Kings, which will make a return in 2025.

Despite its growth and popularity, the Esports World Cup has faced scrutiny due to its ties to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, with ongoing concerns about the country's human rights record.

Fabian Scheuermann, Chief Games Officer of the EWCF, emphasized the significance of the partnership, describing Call of Duty as a globally celebrated game with a legacy of uniting communities. He highlighted the shared vision of creating opportunities for players at all levels, from grassroots to elite, to compete on a global stage. Scheuermann expressed excitement about fostering a landmark event that brings together players, fans, and the broader esports industry under one unifying platform.
