The opening round of the VALORANT Masters Bangkok playoffs saw EDward Gaming and G2 Esports claim important victories over T1 and Team Vitality, respectively. With these wins, both teams have advanced to the upper finals, while T1 and Vitality will have to fight through the lower bracket to keep their tournament hopes alive. EDG's match against T1 was particularly intense, with the Chinese squad nearly securing a dominant 13-0 win on Split before T1 mounted a brief comeback.
Despite the effort, EDG closed out the first map 13-7. T1 responded strongly on Bind, securing a 13-6 victory to force a deciding map on Pearl. The final battle remained close until EDG’s Wan ‘CHICHOO’ Shunzhi led his team to four consecutive round wins, sealing a 13-9 victory and a 2-1 series triumph.
In another highly anticipated clash, G2 Esports and Team Vitality delivered an exciting contest that lived up to expectations. The first map was a thrilling back-and-forth encounter that pushed into overtime before G2 managed to edge out a 15-13 win. On Lotus, G2 initially dominated with a 6-1 lead, but Vitality fought back to level the first half at 6-6.
However, G2 regained control, pushing ahead to a 10-6 lead before ultimately sealing a 13-9 victory to complete a 2-0 sweep. After the match, Team Vitality’s Saif ‘Sayf’ Jibraeel acknowledged the defeat as a necessary learning experience for his team, emphasizing that losing an official match was an important step for their growth.
With these results, EDG and G2 Esports are set to clash in the upper finals of VALORANT Masters Bangkok on February 28 at 10 AM GMT. Fans can catch all the action live on VCT’s official Twitch and YouTube channels as both teams aim for a spot in the grand finals.
Meanwhile, T1 and Team Vitality will have to regroup and fight through the lower bracket if they hope to stay in contention.
