Crashies Confident Fnatic Will Bounce Back After Tough VCT EMEA Kickoff Opening Loss

Posted : 28 January 2026

Fnatic began their campaign at the 2026 VCT EMEA Kickoff with a close 2-0 loss against BBL Esports, but veteran initiator Austin ‘crashies’ Roberts is confident the team can find its rhythm under the tournament’s new triple-elimination format.

“Even though we lost today, I still have massive faith in the team,” crashies said in a post-match interview with Esports Insider. “We still have two more chances with the new format that they introduced this year. I’m not worried. The most important part is getting reps on stage together and figuring out what works for us.”

Crashies, who began his professional VALORANT career in 2020 with T1 and quickly rose to international prominence, has previously secured multiple top finishes, including a first-place victory at Masters Reykjavík 2022 with OpTic Gaming and two runner-up finishes with Fnatic in 2025. Reflecting on his first year with Fnatic, he described it as “a very special journey” despite initial uncertainties following roster changes and coaching shifts.

The American player opted to extend his contract with Fnatic for 2026, praising the leadership of in-game leader Jake ‘Boaster’ Howlett and emphasizing team environment over financial incentives. The roster also welcomed Sylvain ‘Veqaj’ Pattyn, who replaced veteran Timofey ‘Chronicle’ Khromov, with crashies noting the newcomer’s dedication and adaptability.

Although Fnatic faced early challenges in Kickoff due to roster adjustments and travel constraints, crashies believes the team will improve as the season progresses. “We’re a team that needs to warm up and find what works,” he explained.
