Arena of Valor Premier League 2024 unveils new format

Posted : 29 April 2024

The Arena of Valor Premier League 2024 is scheduled to kick off in Bangkok, Thailand, introducing a revamped competitive format organized by Garena. Slated for June 12th, the top-tier tournament will inaugurate a Swiss round as its first stage, marking a significant departure from previous editions.

Arena of Valor, an international adaptation of the popular Chinese mobile game Honor of Kings, boasts a massive following and serves as the centerpiece of the game's esports circuit, drawing top teams from major leagues including ASL (Indonesia), RPL (Thailand), GCS (Taiwan), and AOG (Vietnam).

In a notable shift from previous formats, the upcoming Premier League will debut a Swiss stage preceding the playoffs, where teams vie for qualification by accumulating three wins or face elimination after three losses.

Out of the 16 participating teams, only eight will advance to the playoffs, heightening the competition and setting the stage for intense matchups. The semifinals and finals will unfold offline in Bangkok, mirroring the location of the 2023 edition, underscoring the city's significance as a hub for esports events in the region.

The Arena of Valor Premier League continues to captivate audiences in the Southeast Asian region, with the latest edition boasting over 900,000 peak viewers, as reported by data platform Esports Charts.

Beyond the Premier League, the game's Chinese counterpart, Honor of Kings, is poised to showcase its competitive prowess at the Esports World Cup later this year, featuring Chinese teams alongside competitors from other regions, further solidifying the game's status as a global esports phenomenon.
