ACL Dota 2 Champion to Secure Esports World Cup Spot

Posted : 07 March 2025

The Asian Champions League (ACL), an esports tournament created by Hero Esports, has confirmed that the Dota 2 champion will earn a spot at the Esports World Cup (EWC). The competition boasts a total prize pool of $250,000 (£193,983), with the winner claiming $100,000 (£77,593).

The tournament structure includes three phases, beginning with an Online Qualifier from March 7th to March 30th. Each week, one team will secure a spot in the Season Finals, where they will compete against four invited teams: Xtreme Gaming (XG), Team YB, Tidebound, and an unannounced fourth team.

The Season Finals will run from May 1st to May 3rd, with the top four teams progressing to the Grand Finals on May 16th. Alongside securing a place at the Esports World Cup, the winning team will also earn a slot in Dreamleague S26.

This is not the only ACL tournament offering a pathway to the EWC, as Hero Esports has previously announced similar opportunities for the winners of its CS2 and Honor of Kings tournaments. These teams will compete in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, later in the year.

Established in 2016 and based in Shanghai, Hero Esports is one of Asia’s leading tournament organizers, having worked on global events such as the Olympic Esports Week, the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, and the Esports World Cup.

The ACL, first announced in September 2024, is operated by the Asia Champions League Foundation, a division of Hero Esports. The tournament aims to set a new standard for cloud-based and immersive esports competitions, featuring up to 10 game titles and offering a combined prize pool of 15 million RMB (~£1.67m) in its inaugural edition.
