100 Thieves Partners with Crazy Raccoon for ALGS Year 5 Championship

Posted : 08 January 2026

North American esports organization 100 Thieves has announced a partnership with Japanese team Crazy Raccoon for the upcoming Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Year 5 Championship. The combined roster, competing under the name Crazy Thieves, will begin its campaign in the Group Stage on January 29, 2026, in Sapporo, Japan.

The trio representing Crazy Thieves consists of Noyan ‘Genburten’ Ozkose, Josue ‘Phony’ Ruiz, and 2023 world champion Evan ‘Verhulst’ Verhulst. 100 Thieves earned its spot at the championship by finishing among the top teams in both splits of the Americas Pro League this season.

Crazy Raccoon, on the other hand, has faced challenges in recent months. Following the retirement of Han ‘SangJoon’ Sang-joon in August 2025, the Japanese organization dissolved its Apex Legends roster. In the previous year, Crazy Raccoon ended Year 4 in 27th place at the 2025 Championship, placed 105th in the 2025 Open, and finished 32nd in the Midseason Playoffs during Year 5.

At the championship, Crazy Thieves will face 40 teams, including past champions and regional winners, from January 15 to 18, 2026. Groups have been finalized, with the opening stage divided into four groups of 10 teams. Each group will compete in a six-match series to determine seedings for the Bracket Stage. The top 20 teams from the groups—10 from each—will advance to the finals.

The tournament concludes with a match-point format, requiring a team to secure a battle-royale victory after reaching the 50-point threshold. The ALGS Year 5 Championship caps off a competitive season marked by major format changes, with teams vying for their share of a $2 million (~£1.48m) prize pool.

Crazy Thieves’ formation highlights a strategic international collaboration as top-tier talent from North America and Japan join forces to compete at the pinnacle of competitive Apex Legends.
