Launched in August 2024 with 12 accredited boxing clubs, the campaign has featured an impressive 516 bouts across various weight categories. Now, after months of thrilling action in the squared ring, the focus shifts to four standout clubs: Agulo Seite Boxing Club, Ogbas Families, Espita BC, and Miramontes Boxing Club, who will battle for supremacy in both male and female categories.
With the largest prize purse in African amateur boxing history at stake, the intensity is expected to reach fever pitch when the clubs clash on Friday, June 27 at the newly unveiled Yucateco Arena in Okesopin, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State.
The drama will continue with individual finals at the Yucateco Showdown Series Main Event on Sunday, June 29, to be held at Bintol Hotel, Sagamu, Ogun State. Headlining the men’s 63.5kg bout is last season’s Most Valuable Boxer, Abdulwahab Abdulrahman, who will defend his crown against Riliwan Salawu.
In the women’s category, all eyes will be on the explosive 63kg bout between reigning MVB and Yucateco Pan-African Champion Precious Anine of Espita Boxing Club and the ever-consistent Omolayo Adaramola of E-Francis Aiyegbeni BC.
YBL founder and CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions, Omonlei Imadu, outlined his vision for sustainable boxing development in Nigeria.
“We’ve shown for the second consecutive season that boxing can truly thrive in Africa with the right structure and commitment. Our plan is holistic—it doesn’t only target the boxers, but also includes training for coaches, referees, judges, R&J, and medical personnel,” Imadu said.
The Season 2 champion club will walk away with a grand prize of ₦50 million—the richest in African amateur boxing. There will also be individual prizes across 13 weight categories:
