Tyson Fury Rules Out Retirement After Anthony Joshua Fight

Posted : 29 October 2026

Tyson Fury has dismissed suggestions that his December showdown with Anthony Joshua could mark the end of his professional boxing career. The former heavyweight world champion says he intends to continue fighting after their highly anticipated clash in Cardiff.

Fury and Joshua are scheduled to meet at the Principality Stadium on December 11. The contest will bring together two of Britain’s biggest heavyweight names after years of negotiations and speculation surrounding the matchup.

Speaking to IFL TV, Fury revealed that he still has two fights remaining on his current contract. He also indicated that he could sign a new deal after fulfilling those obligations.

“I’m going to continue. I’ve got two fights left on my contract. I’ll finish the contract off and then probably sign another 10-fight deal,” Fury said.

The 38-year-old added that financial terms would influence his decision to extend his career. However, he acknowledged that age would be a factor in determining how quickly he takes on future opponents.

“If the money’s right, I’ll sign another 10 fights, but they’ve got to be quick because I’m getting older,” he added.

Fury’s comments come after another retirement U-turn. The Manchester-born boxer previously announced his retirement following consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, who beat him twice in their heavyweight championship rivalry.

His latest remarks suggest that he remains interested in pursuing more major fights rather than walking away after the Joshua contest. A new 10-fight contract would extend his career considerably, although no new agreement has been confirmed.

The December showdown is expected to be one of the biggest boxing events of the year. Both fighters have enjoyed successful careers but have also experienced setbacks against leading opponents in recent seasons.

Fury returned to action in 2026 and secured a stoppage victory over Mariusz Wach in July. Joshua also returned to winning ways that month, stopping Kristian Prenga after recovering from two knockdowns.

Their upcoming meeting offers both heavyweights an opportunity to strengthen their standing in the division. It also raises questions about what comes next, particularly for the fighter who loses.

Beyond Joshua, Daniel Dubois has emerged as a potential opponent for Fury. Dubois strengthened his position among the leading heavyweights with an impressive second-round stoppage of Fabio Wardley at London’s O2 Arena on October 17.

Fury has not confirmed who he would face after Joshua or whether he would pursue another championship opportunity. For now, his priority remains the December contest, while his latest comments make clear that retirement is not his immediate plan.
