Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has announced plans to return to the ring on August 1 in Dublin, just days after rival Anthony Joshua is scheduled to make his own comeback fight.
The two British stars are widely expected to face each other later in the year in a long-anticipated “Battle of Britain,” likely in November. However, both fighters appear set to take tune-up bouts before that potential blockbuster showdown.
Joshua will return first, taking on relatively unknown Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga in Riyadh on July 25. It will be his first fight since a tragic road accident in Nigeria in December, which claimed the lives of two close friends.
Fury, meanwhile, shared footage of himself training in Thailand on social media, confirming his return date with a message that read: “Let’s go 1 August, Dublin, Ireland.” The event is expected to feature on a fight card being organised by veteran promoter Frank Warren, though an opponent for Fury has not yet been announced.
One name ruled out is Andy Ruiz Jr, the former world champion who famously defeated Joshua in 2019 before losing the rematch later that year.
Fury recently ended a brief retirement with a dominant points victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov in April, after which he publicly called out Joshua, who was ringside for the fight.
Their rivalry escalated with a heated exchange, where Joshua responded to Fury’s challenge by stating: “I’m the landlord, remember that. You work for me.”
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has since fuelled expectations of a long-awaited showdown, describing the potential bout as “signed, sealed, delivered,” as anticipation builds for one of boxing’s biggest all-British fights.
