Tyson Fury has confirmed that he will return to the ring on April 11 for a highly anticipated bout against Arslanbek Makhmudov, and he plans to do so without a trainer.
The two-time heavyweight world champion, who has been retired for over a year, revealed that he intends to manage his entire training camp independently, relying solely on himself to prepare for the fight.
Since 2019, Fury had been guided by American coach SugarHill Steward, who played a key role in his WBC world title win and also prepared him for his two losses to Oleksandr Usyk.
However, Fury stated in a recent appearance on the 5 Live Boxing podcast with Steve Bunce that he will no longer require a trainer or any specialized coaching.
“I don’t need a trainer, I don’t need a nutritionist, I don’t need a mind coach, I don’t need a sleep coach, and I definitely don’t need a strength coach,” Fury said. He added that his focus is simply on the essentials during the fight: having someone to rinse his gumshield, hand him water between rounds, and apply Vaseline to his eyes.
Fury confidently described himself as having a “PhD in boxing,” insisting that he is fully capable of managing all aspects of his comeback preparation.
