Sebastian Fundora Injured in Sparring, Title Defence Against Keith Thurman Postponed

Posted : 15 October 2025

World super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora suffered a hand injury in training, forcing the delay of his WBC title defence.

World super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora has been forced to postpone his upcoming title defence against fellow American Keith Thurman after sustaining a hand injury during a sparring session, promoters confirmed.

Fundora was originally scheduled to defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) 154-pound (69.9kg) title in Las Vegas on October 25, but no replacement date has been announced. The specific hand injured has not been disclosed.

The 27-year-old southpaw, who holds a professional record of 23 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw with 15 knockouts, was set to defend his belt for the third time after winning it from Tim Tszyu via a 12-round split decision in March 2024. His most recent fight was a rematch against Tszyu last July, which ended in a seventh-round stoppage.

Thurman, 36, who boasts a record of 31-1-1 with 23 knockouts, has fought only twice since his lone career loss to Manny Pacquiao by split decision in 2019. In March of this year, he scored a third-round stoppage over Brock Jarvis in Sydney, Australia.

Thurman previously held both the WBC and WBA welterweight titles in 2017, defeating Danny Garcia by split decision in New York.
