Ryan Garcia Skips First Face-Off With Conor Benn Ahead of Las Vegas Title Fight

Ryan Garcia was absent from the first scheduled face-off with Conor Benn on Tuesday as tensions continued to build ahead of their WBC welterweight title fight in Las Vegas this weekend. The bout is set for Saturday, September 12, at T-Mobile Arena.

Garcia had been expected to attend a promotional photo opportunity alongside Benn but did not appear. Benn was instead joined by his father, British boxing legend Nigel Benn, with the pair jokingly staging their own face-off.

After the light-hearted moment with his father, Benn confirmed Garcia had failed to turn up and took another opportunity to criticize his rival.

Benn said he was ready for the confrontation and warned that the situation would be very different when the two fighters finally meet in the ring on Saturday.

Garcia, who is defending the WBC welterweight championship he won against Mario Barrios in February, later responded on social media by mocking Benn for attending the event. The champion also took aim at the British fighter's demanding weight cut.

The 28-year-old Garcia enters the contest as the favorite, while Benn, 29, will challenge for a world title for the first time. Benn heads into the fight after victories over Chris Eubank Jr. and Regis Prograis, adding further momentum to the highly anticipated clash.

The rivals are scheduled to meet again at Thursday's news conference before completing their pre-fight obligations at Friday's weigh-in.
