Ryan Garcia confirms September clash with Conor Benn

Posted : 19 May 2026

Ryan Garcia has confirmed that he will face British boxer Conor Benn in a highly anticipated welterweight clash scheduled for September in Las Vegas. The WBC welterweight champion made the announcement while appearing on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” where he described the fight as personal and long-awaited.

Garcia, 27, secured his first major world title in February after defeating Mario Barrios by unanimous decision. Despite previous setbacks in title fights, he has now established himself as a leading name in the division and is preparing for one of the biggest bouts of his career.

Conor Benn, 29, is yet to contest a world title but continues to build momentum in his professional career. The son of former two-weight world champion Nigel Benn, he has been aiming to follow in his father’s footsteps while rebuilding his standing in the welterweight division.

Garcia added that tensions between the two fighters date back several years, claiming Benn confronted him at an awards event, adding further intensity to their upcoming encounter. The American boxer vowed to deliver a dominant performance when they meet in the ring.

Benn has recently competed above the welterweight limit, including a catchweight victory over Regis Prograis, and has been working with new promoters after signing with Zuffa Boxing, backed by UFC president Dana White. Garcia, meanwhile, boasts 25 wins in 28 professional fights, although both fighters have faced career setbacks, including past suspensions linked to doping issues.

The fight is scheduled for 12 September in Las Vegas, the same night as the super-middleweight showdown between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Christian Mbilli in Riyadh.
