Ray Mercer Set to Attend Street Rumble Season 2 as Lagos Event Gets Brila Media Backing

Posted : 02 October 2026

Boxing legend Ray Mercer is set to attend the second season of The Street Rumble in Lagos as a special international ringside guest. The grassroots boxing event is scheduled for December 13, 2026, at Maracana Square in Ajegunle.

Mercer won heavyweight gold for the United States at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul before building a successful professional career. He later became WBO World Heavyweight Champion, adding international experience to an event focused on developing young Nigerian fighters.

The American, popularly known as “Merciless,” will not compete in the event. His role will be as a special ringside guest, giving the second edition an international presence while the organisers continue to promote boxing talent from Nigeria’s grassroots communities.

The Street Rumble returns after its inaugural edition in April. Match Maker Sports International, the event organisers, said the second season will have a broader focus on showcasing emerging Nigerian boxers and creating opportunities for the next generation of fighters.

Brila Media has also been confirmed as the official media partner for Season 2. The partnership will cover interviews, promotional material, event coverage and stories around the participating fighters and the wider grassroots boxing movement.

Match Maker Sports International CEO Mike Adeyemo said the media partnership would help take the Street Rumble story to a larger sports audience. He also reaffirmed the organisers’ objective of giving young fighters a platform and creating opportunities through grassroots boxing.

The collaboration is expected to increase visibility for fighters emerging from Nigeria’s local boxing communities. It also gives Brila Media a central role in documenting the event and telling the stories of the boxers involved.

The organisers have yet to announce the complete fight card. Details regarding participating fighters, ticketing, broadcast arrangements and additional special guests are expected to be released through the official channels of The Street Rumble and Match Maker Sports International.

With Mercer confirmed for the December event, attention now turns to the fighters who will compete at Maracana Square. Season 2 is expected to build on the inaugural edition while providing another platform for Nigeria’s emerging boxing talent to gain exposure.
