Reality television star Josephina “Phyna” Otabor made history at Balmoral Promotions’ Chaos in the Ring event after defeating actress Nkechi Blessing in Nigeria’s first female celebrity boxing bout. The event was held at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, on October 1.

Phyna stopped Nkechi Blessing in the fourth round of their scheduled four-round contest. The victory earned her a ₦50 million prize, with reports also stating that she received an electric vehicle following the bout.

The former Big Brother Naija winner said she remained composed during the fight before stepping up her attack in the final round. She then turned her attention to another Nollywood actress, Etinosa Idemudia, and challenged her to a future celebrity boxing contest.

Etinosa, who watched the fight from ringside, accepted the challenge. The development could provide another female celebrity boxing contest after Phyna and Nkechi became the first women to headline such a bout under the Chaos in the Ring series.

Carter Efe also recorded a victory on the celebrity card after defeating musician Speed Darlington. The four-round contest ended when the referee stopped the fight, giving Carter Efe another win in the Chaos in the Ring series.

Carter Efe had previously defeated singer Portable by unanimous decision in May. The latest victory extended his unbeaten run in the celebrity boxing series and settled another rivalry that had generated significant attention before the event.

The professional headline bout produced another major result as Ghanaian Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah dethroned Nigerian champion Godday “Zodsolo” Appah. Gyimah won by unanimous decision to claim the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship.

The Appah-Gyimah contest had carried additional significance because of the Nigeria-Ghana rivalry. Appah entered the fight as the defending WBO African champion, while Gyimah arrived as the challenger after a build-up marked by tense exchanges between the two fighters.

The Lagos show combined professional championship boxing with celebrity contests, creating a mixed fight card that attracted entertainers and established boxers. The event was broadcast live on SuperSport and DAZN and was powered by Bet9ja.
