Oscar Collazo Withdraws From Ricardo Sandoval Fight After Rib Injury

Unbeaten minimumweight champion Oscar Collazo has withdrawn from his planned October 10 bout against Ricardo Sandoval after suffering a rib injury during training. The fight was scheduled for Wintrust Arena in Chicago, where Collazo was set to move up two weight divisions and challenge Sandoval for his WBA and WBC flyweight titles.

Collazo, a 29-year-old southpaw from Puerto Rico, holds a perfect 15-0 record with 12 knockouts. He is the WBA and WBO minimumweight champion and had been preparing to make his first appearance at 112 pounds against Sandoval.

Sandoval, who has a 27-2 record with 18 knockouts, was due to defend his WBA and WBC flyweight championships against Collazo. The matchup had been scheduled as the co-main event on a Golden Boy Promotions card headlined by Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi.

Collazo said he was disappointed by the postponement but remains determined to face Sandoval. He expressed his desire to find another date for the contest after recovering from the injury and thanked supporters who had been anticipating the championship bout.

The Puerto Rican champion most recently stopped Neider Valdez in the second round in June. His planned meeting with Sandoval represented a significant move up in weight, with Collazo seeking to become a champion across another division.

The October 10 event will continue despite Collazo's withdrawal. Schofield, who is 19-0 with 13 knockouts, will face unbeaten Canadian Lucas Bahdi, 20-0 with 15 knockouts, for the vacant WBA lightweight title. The event remains scheduled for Wintrust Arena in Chicago and will be broadcast on DAZN.

A new date for Collazo's proposed fight with Sandoval has not yet been announced. Both fighters remain set to pursue the matchup once a new date can be arranged.
