Nigerian Officials Secure Key Roles in African Boxing Sub-Committees

Posted : 09 January 2026

Two Nigerian boxing officials have earned significant appointments within African boxing sub-committees, highlighting the country’s growing influence in continental governance.

Emoni Williams has been named Chairman of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee of the African Boxing body.

The official letter, signed by President Solomon Desmond Kargbo, emphasized that Williams’ appointment reflects his integrity, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards across African boxing.

Kargbo expressed confidence in Williams’ ability to promote fairness, accountability, and adherence to the rules of the sport.

In a separate development, Babatunde Laguda, a Nigerian expert in technical boxing procedures, was appointed Secretary General of the Technical Committee of the African Boxing League (ABL). The committee is responsible for organizing competitions that identify emerging boxing talent across Africa, particularly young prospects.

Laguda will oversee technical operations, ensure competitions meet established standards, and support policy implementation to enhance professionalism, fairness, and sustainable growth within the league.

The African Boxing League aims to engage all four African zones, initially involving 15 countries, with plans to expand to include more nations across the continent. The appointments of Williams and Laguda underscore Nigeria’s key role in shaping the future of boxing in Africa.
