Nigeria to Compete in Togo 2026 Professional Wrestling Championship

Posted : 22 January 2026

Nigerian wrestlers are set to face athletes from five other African countries as a total of six nations have confirmed participation in the forthcoming Professional Wrestling Championship, slated to take place in Nigeria and Togo in July 2026.

The participating countries are Nigeria, Togo, Benin Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, and Ghana.

The championship, supervised by “Shaolin Master” Simba Bafuka, coordinator and head coach at Brussels Young Wrestling Style (BYWS), Belgium, is aimed at developing wrestling across the continent and providing wrestlers the opportunity to test their skills against some of Africa’s best fighters. This was disclosed by the Secretary-General of Pro-Wrestling Africa, the sanctioning body for the championship.

“We at Pro-Wrestling Africa, in conjunction with the Shaolin Master of Brussels Young Wrestling Style (BYWS), are delighted with the interest shown by these countries in participating in this historic championship,” the Secretary-General said. “We hope that more African nations will submit entries before July to be part of this landmark event.

“This championship is part of our ongoing collaboration with the Shaolin Master, who is committed to expanding wrestling to all corners of Africa. This is just the beginning of exciting developments in the sport on the continent.”

Olukoya further explained that the championship will give young and upcoming wrestlers, particularly from West Africa, exposure to the fundamentals of professional wrestling, while all logistics are being put in place for a successful event.

Speaking from his base in Belgium, ‘Shaolin Master’ Simba Bafuka, who recently donated a wrestling ring to Togo Catch, the body responsible for professional wrestling in Togo, said he eagerly awaits the July event, which will allow him to properly assess African fighters.

“I’m highly excited about the forthcoming championship. Having visited Nigeria and Togo to organize wrestling seminars and donate a ring to the Togolese, this event will give me the chance to evaluate performances and exchange ideas with stakeholders from all participating countries on how to advance wrestling in their respective nations. I assure you, it’s going to be a spectacular event,” he concluded.
