NBF Board Members Rally Support for Commonwealth Games Boxers in Lagos Camp

Posted : 20 May 2026

The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has applauded several members of its executive board for their generous support towards the national boxing team currently preparing for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The federation specifically commended Major General Ola Oyelade, Mrs. Dorcas Olaosebikan, Iyabode Steven, Barrister Emoni Williams, alongside other stakeholders, for their financial and material assistance aimed at improving the welfare of athletes in camp in Lagos.

Speaking on behalf of the federation, NBF Vice President, Hon. Omonlei Imadu, described the gesture as a strong demonstration of patriotism and commitment to the growth of boxing in Nigeria.

According to Imadu, the contributions from board members have further strengthened the federation’s resolve to reposition the sport and provide adequate support for the athletes ahead of the Games.

He noted that the federation remains fully focused on achieving podium finishes in Glasgow, stressing that preparations began early to give the boxers the best possible platform for success.

Imadu revealed that the NBF became one of the first sports federations in the country to open camp for its athletes, with 30 boxers already undergoing intensive training since April under the federation’s care.

“Our target remains clear — every boxer representing Nigeria in Scotland must return home with a medal,” he said.

Nigeria is expected to parade 10 boxers, comprising male and female athletes, at the 23rd Commonwealth Games scheduled to hold from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The collaborative efforts from the executive board members have injected vital resources and moral encouragement into the squad at a decisive moment in their training cycle. With early camping and rigorous sessions already yielding positive development for the 30 athletes, the federation is positioned to maximize its potential on the global stage. This unified front reinforces Nigeria's determination to deliver a standout performance and secure multiple accolades when the boxing competition commences in Scotland.
