Muratalla Edges Cruz, Walsh Outpoints Ocampo in Vegas Boxing Showdowns

Posted : 26 January 2026

Boxing fans were treated to an action‑packed card in Las Vegas as two notable fights delivered contrasting displays of skill and strategy. In the IBF Lightweight World Title clash, champion Raymond Muratalla narrowly fended off a determined challenge from Andy Cruz, retaining his belt in a competitive 12‑round battle that showcased grit and tactical prowess.

The judges scored the bout 118‑110, 116‑112 and 114‑114 in Muratalla’s favour, giving him a majority decision victory over the Cuban challenger in what was Cruz’s first professional loss. Muratalla’s ability to apply pressure and control the centre of the ring proved decisive in the later rounds against the Olympic gold medallist, who fought with speed and precision but ultimately couldn’t sway enough judges to take the title.

Earlier on the same fight night at the Meta Apex, middleweight contender Callum Walsh faced veteran Carlos Ocampo in the main event of Zuffa Boxing’s inaugural card. Walsh dominated much of the 10‑round contest with effective counterpunching and solid ring generalship, although he himself was credited with a flash knockdown in the sixth when his glove briefly touched the canvas after a punch from Ocampo.

Despite that scare and a spirited effort from the Mexican veteran, Walsh controlled the pace and landing the cleaner shots throughout. All three judges awarded him a wide unanimous decision, with scores of 98‑90, 98‑90 and 97‑91.

The contrasting styles on display underscored the diversity of the sport: Muratalla’s championship grit in a technical, tactical lightweight title fight, and Walsh’s measured, authoritative performance in a high‑profile debut for a new boxing promotion. As the Las Vegas crowd filed out, both fighters could reflect on nights that, for very different reasons, will shape their paths in the competitive landscape of professional boxing.
