Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has extended an offer of Ghanaian citizenship to Anthony Joshua, the British-Nigerian heavyweight boxing champion. Mahama also encouraged the celebrated athlete to consider serving as a continental ambassador for boxing in Africa.
The proposal was made during a meeting between the two in Accra, where Mahama commended Joshua’s accomplishments and global influence in the sport. He praised the boxer’s commitment to excellence and noted that his presence could play a pivotal role in inspiring young African athletes and elevating the profile of boxing across the continent.
Mahama emphasized that Ghana would be proud to embrace Joshua not just as a son of African heritage, but also as a symbol of unity and strength for African sports. While Joshua is yet to respond formally to the offer, the move reflects growing interest in leveraging the athlete's global brand to support youth development and sports outreach in Africa.
