Joe Joyce clinches victory over Kash Ali, Nathan Heaney retains British Middleweight Title in thrilling draw

Posted : 17 March 2024

In his first bout since suffering consecutive knockout defeats to Zhilei Zhang, Joe Joyce secured a much-needed victory over Kash Ali. Despite the expectations of overwhelming dominance, Joyce struggled to find his rhythm against Ali initially, gradually gaining confidence as the fight progressed. Ali resisted Joyce's onslaught, landing a few significant blows of his own before succumbing to exhaustion in the later rounds.

In the tenth round, Joyce finally broke through Ali's defenses, delivering a decisive knockout with a short right hand just seconds before the final bell. Although Ali showed resilience throughout the match, his efforts weren't enough to withstand Joyce's relentless pursuit, ultimately falling to the canvas as the referee counted him out.

Despite doubts lingering from his previous losses, Joyce proved his resilience and determination in this crucial moment of his career. The 38-year-old viewed this fight as a pivotal juncture, transitioning from a potential title challenger to an undercard participant. Despite the challenges he faced, Joyce remained focused on overcoming adversity and returning to form.

Meanwhile, in the headline bout, Nathan Heaney retained his British middleweight title after a thrilling encounter with Brad Pauls ended in a split draw. Heaney, buoyed by strong support from Stoke City fans, showcased his resilience against a determined Pauls. The fight saw both men exchanging powerful blows, with Heaney managing to withstand Pauls' onslaught in the later rounds, ultimately retaining his title amidst a close and fiercely contested bout.
