Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight declared professional by Texas regulators

Posted : 30 April 2024

The upcoming July 20 bout between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has been officially designated as a sanctioned, professional fight by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. Scheduled to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the heavyweight clash will unfold over eight two-minute rounds, with both fighters utilizing 14-ounce gloves, and the outcome will have a direct impact on their professional boxing records.

Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian expressed gratitude for meeting the requirements set forth by the TDLR, ensuring that the highly anticipated showdown between Paul and Tyson will be a regulated professional contest.

At 57 years old, Tyson enters the ring with a professional record of 50 wins and 6 losses, with 44 knockouts. Despite not having secured a professional victory since 2003, Tyson's return to the sport has garnered significant attention, particularly due to his historic age gap with his opponent. When Tyson faces off against the 27-year-old Paul, the 31-year age difference will mark the largest in the history of professional boxing, surpassing the previous record set in 1963.

Paul, known for his swift rise in the combat sports world, has amassed a professional record of 9 wins and 1 loss, with 6 knockouts, and aims to secure a victory over the legendary Tyson to further his quest for recognition and eventual championship contention.

In addition to the headline event featuring Paul and Tyson, Netflix will delve into the realm of combat sports with its first-ever live sporting event, aiming to set streaming records. The promotion has strategically included the highly anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano as the co-main event, with Taylor defending her undisputed super lightweight championship against Serrano.

The initial encounter between Taylor and Serrano in 2022 proved to be a pivotal moment for women's boxing, igniting widespread interest and contributing to the current resurgence in the sport's popularity.
