Imane Khelif’s scheduled return to professional boxing has been delayed after the Olympic champion suffered a shoulder injury during a training session. The bout, which was set for April 23 in Paris against Germany’s Julia Ige, has been officially postponed following medical evaluation.
Organisers confirmed that Khelif is dealing with a painful condition in her left shoulder that restricts movement and makes competition unsafe at this stage. After assessment, medical staff advised that the physical demands of elite boxing would pose too great a risk, leading to the decision to withdraw her from the scheduled event.
The entire fight card, which also included World Boxing Association title bouts, has been pushed back as a result of her withdrawal. Promoters emphasized that athlete safety remains the top priority and stated that a new date will be arranged in coordination with governing bodies, with ticket holders set to receive refunds.
Khelif, who won Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games, has not competed since her triumph amid ongoing discussions surrounding eligibility rules in women’s boxing. Her return was highly anticipated as her first professional appearance since the Olympics.
Organisers and promoters expressed support for her recovery, stressing that she will only return once fully fit. The setback delays what was expected to be a significant milestone in her professional career transition.
