The friendly international boxing match between Ghana and Nigeria ended in a narrow 4-3 victory for the hosts in Accra, with Ghana relying on strong performances in the men’s division to secure the overall win. Nigeria, however, impressed early by dominating the women’s bouts before the momentum shifted.
In the women’s category, Nigeria took control through standout performances from Kadijat Ajisola and Aishat Gbadamosi. Ajisola delivered a dominant display to defeat Ramatu Quaye 5-0 in the bantamweight (-54kg) division, while Gbadamosi earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over Nancy Bamfo in the featherweight (-57kg) bout.
Ghana responded strongly once the men’s contests began, turning the tie in their favour. Amadu Mohammed opened the hosts’ account with a convincing 5-0 win over Michael Ogunremi, before Ebenezer Ankrah extended the lead with another dominant 5-0 victory against Sodiq Oduniyi. Abdul Wahid Omar added further advantage for Ghana after edging Abdul Rahman Abdul Wahab 3-2 in a closely contested light welterweight bout.
Nigeria fought back through Folly Hassan, who secured a narrow 3-2 win over Khalid Abdul in the light middleweight division to keep the contest alive. However, Ghana sealed the overall victory in the final bout as Desmond Pappoe defeated Daniel Joshua 4-1 in the light heavyweight category.
Nigeria’s Blessing Orakwe did not compete after her scheduled opponent from Ghana failed to show up for their bout. The friendly served as preparation for upcoming continental championships and Commonwealth Games qualifying events for both nations.
