George Staines Earns UFC Contract With Stunning 61-Second Finish

Britain’s George Staines secured a UFC contract in spectacular fashion after stopping Loai Abushaar just 61 seconds into their lightweight contest on Dana White’s Contender Series in Las Vegas. The undefeated 26-year-old produced a powerful slam before finishing the fight with ground-and-pound.

Staines, who trains at Next Generation MMA in Liverpool alongside UFC star Paddy Pimblett, entered the contest looking to maintain his unbeaten professional record. He quickly took control against Abushaar before delivering the decisive slam that ended the fight in the opening round.

The impressive finish earned a strong reaction from Pimblett and fellow UFC fighter Luke Riley, who were among those supporting Staines at the event. The victory also continued the British fighter’s perfect run, taking his professional record to 9-0.

UFC president Dana White was particularly impressed by the manner of the stoppage. He praised Staines for overcoming the significant size of his 155-pound opponent and described the finish as one of the best he had seen on the Contender Series before welcoming him to the UFC.

Staines had previously built his undefeated record through appearances with promotions including Cage Warriors and Oktagon. His most recent victories before the Contender Series came under the Cage Warriors banner, where he secured wins in Manchester.

The victory made Staines one of four fighters awarded UFC contracts on the latest Contender Series episode. Aieza Bertolso, Ian Escuza and Adama Diop also received deals following their respective performances in Las Vegas.

Staines will now begin the next chapter of his career as an official UFC lightweight, with his unbeaten record and explosive Contender Series debut providing the foundation for his move to the world's leading MMA promotion.
