Filip Hrgovic Targets Daniel Dubois Title Rematch Ahead of Dave Allen Heavyweight Showdown

Posted : 16 May 2026

Croatian heavyweight contender Filip Hrgovic has expressed a strong desire to secure a future rematch against Daniel Dubois. The statement comes as he prepares for his crucial clash against British underdog Dave Allen this Saturday. The 10-round bout will take place at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster.

The 33-year-old Olympic bronze medalist enters the contest in solid form after securing consecutive victories over Joe Joyce and David Adeleye. Those wins helped him rebuild momentum following his first career defeat. Meanwhile, his opponent Allen comes into the hometown fight full of confidence. The local favorite expects to pull off a massive upset against the highly rated visitor.

During the final pre-fight press conference, Hrgovic was asked about his ultimate career ambitions. Reporters questioned whether winning a world title against Dubois would make the achievement extra special. Dubois recently captured the vacant WBO heavyweight title by stopping Fabio Wardley last week in Manchester.

Hrgovic responded enthusiastically and stated that a second fight with Dubois would be a dream scenario. He explained that a rematch with world titles on the line presents the perfect career opportunity: "To have a rematch and to challenge for world titles both in one punch. So it will be amazing."

However, the Croatian admitted that boxing can change rapidly and refused to look too far ahead. He previously fought Dubois in June 2024 and suffered an eighth-round stoppage. Hrgovic blamed that loss on illness, an early cut, and failing to block the jab.

The contender believes a completely different tactical approach will guarantee success in a future meeting. Reports suggest that if he defeats Allen without sustaining injuries, he could face rising star Moses Itauma in August. For now, his immediate attention must remain locked on the challenge from Allen in South Yorkshire.
