Dillian Whyte cleared to resume boxing career after contaminated supplement scandal

Posted : 03 March 2024

Dillian Whyte has been cleared to resume his boxing career following an investigation that revealed his positive drugs test resulted from a contaminated supplement. The British heavyweight's rematch against Anthony Joshua was canceled in August after an adverse finding.

Whyte, 35, asserted that he unknowingly ingested a banned substance, and forensic documentation indicated that a nutritional supplement taken by him did not disclose all ingredients, including a prohibited substance. Despite the relief of being cleared, Whyte expressed frustration over the ordeal, emphasizing the missed opportunity to face Joshua.

In response to the positive test, more than 45 items, including toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorant, were tested in an effort to identify the source of contamination. Whyte, who beat Joshua in an amateur bout in 2009, highlighted the emotional toll of opening up his private life for investigation.

He stated that clearing his name was the most important aspect of the process. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which licenses Whyte, has yet to comment on the situation.

This isn't Whyte's first encounter with doping-related issues, as he received a two-year suspension in 2012 for taking an illegal supplement, though he claimed no knowledge of the banned substance. Despite these challenges, Whyte has now been granted the opportunity to continue his boxing career after the recent investigation.
