Daniel Rodriguez has announced his intention to return to the UFC following his release from a prison in Tijuana, Mexico, where he reportedly spent eight months. The American welterweight fighter says the experience has transformed him and strengthened his mindset ahead of a comeback to the octagon.
The 39-year-old shared a video on Instagram showing himself training, including hitting pads and sparring in an unusual setting that appears to be inside or near a prison facility. He captioned the post with a message declaring he is “ready for my return to the UFC octagon.”
Rodriguez claimed the time in custody did not break his spirit, but instead sharpened his focus and discipline. He described himself as returning in a more determined and aggressive state, stating that the experience created a “monster” that he is now ready to reveal inside the cage.
According to his post, he expressed gratitude to his legal representatives, management team, family, and close friends for supporting him through his release and return to freedom. However, the circumstances surrounding his arrest have not been made public, and authorities in Mexico along with the UFC have not issued official statements.
Daniel Rodriguez, currently ranked 14th in the UFC welterweight division, has not competed since July of last year, when he earned a unanimous decision victory over Kevin Holland. Since making his UFC debut in 2020, he has secured 10 wins in 14 fights within the promotion.
