Trainer Don Charles has made it clear that Daniel Dubois’ camp will avoid any distractions ahead of his upcoming heavyweight world title fight against Fabio Wardley. The bout, scheduled to take place in Manchester, carries major stakes as Dubois looks to become a two-time world champion.
The decision comes after scrutiny over previous fight-night routines. Dubois, 28, was involved in a pre-fight gathering before his July clash with Oleksandr Usyk, arriving at the venue just hours before ringwalks. He went on to suffer a fifth-round stoppage loss, losing his IBF title, with questions later raised about the timing and nature of the event.
A similar pre-fight gathering had also taken place before Dubois’ career-defining victory over Anthony Joshua in 2024, when he secured a dramatic knockout win. However, repeating that approach against Usyk proved unsuccessful, leading to internal discussions within his team about preparation standards.
Charles emphasized that while past routines were not solely responsible for the defeat, they are being adjusted to ensure maximum focus this time. He confirmed that no social gathering will be allowed before the Wardley fight, reinforcing a stricter approach to fight-week discipline.
Dubois, who is targeting another world title run at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena, has also addressed the issue, stating that the previous party was not the reason for his loss to Usyk. He credited the Ukrainian champion’s elite level and expressed appreciation for the experience gained from their two fights.
After parting ways following the Wembley defeat, Dubois and Charles reunited later in 2025 and have since rebuilt their working relationship. The coach described their reunion positively, noting that training has been steady and focused, with an emphasis on returning to elite form.
Charles said Dubois spent time training and briefly traveled before returning to familiar surroundings in camp. He added that the atmosphere has been positive and professional, highlighting mutual respect and renewed motivation as they prepare for one of the biggest fights of Dubois’ career.
