Chris Eubank and Conor Benn are set to reignite one of British boxing’s most iconic family rivalries as they meet in a highly anticipated rematch on 20 September. The announcement follows their contentious bout in April, where Eubank claimed a unanimous decision victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. With both fighters eager to settle unfinished business, the stage is being set for another explosive encounter.
More than 30 years have passed since their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, captivated the boxing world with two unforgettable fights, one ending in a win for Eubank Sr in 1990 and the other a draw in 1993. Now, their sons are continuing the legacy.
Although the same Tottenham venue is likely to host the rematch, promoter Eddie Hearn has hinted at the possibility of moving the fight to the 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium to meet growing demand. “Spurs is contracted — it worked well the first time,” Hearn told Ring magazine. “But this fight’s even bigger, so you could possibly look at Wembley.”
Their first meeting was closely contested, with all three judges scoring it 116-112 in Eubank’s favor. While neither fighter managed to land a decisive blow, Benn was handed the first defeat of his professional career. Despite the loss, Benn remains focused and optimistic, writing on social media: “Experience gained, lessons learned.”
The road to this rematch has been anything but smooth. The pair were originally scheduled to fight in 2022, but the bout was called off after Benn failed two drug tests. Although he has consistently denied any intentional wrongdoing, he was later cleared to resume his career, paving the way for this long-awaited second clash.
With history, pride, and legacy on the line, the Eubank-Benn rematch promises to deliver another unforgettable night in British boxing.
