Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are finally on course to face each other in a highly anticipated all-British heavyweight showdown, bringing an end to years of speculation, delays, and failed negotiations. The long-discussed clash between two of boxing’s biggest names is now expected to take place later this year.
Joshua is currently preparing for his return to the ring after a difficult period away from competition following a tragic car accident at the end of last year that claimed the lives of two of his close friends. Before the Fury fight becomes reality, he is scheduled to face Albania’s Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia in July as part of his comeback plan.
His promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed that the agreement for the Fury fight has now been completed, describing it as the most significant deal of his career. He also celebrated the long-awaited matchup, stating that the long-discussed bout is finally set to happen after years of anticipation.
While an official date and venue have not yet been confirmed, the fight is widely expected to take place in November and will reportedly be broadcast on Netflix, adding further global attention to the event.
Joshua has spoken about taking time away from the sport to recover and rebuild following recent personal challenges. He views his upcoming fight with Prenga on July 25 in Riyadh as an important step toward returning to top-level competition.
Tyson Fury, meanwhile, recently made his comeback after a 16-month retirement, earning a unanimous decision victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov. Joshua was in attendance for the fight, though the expected face-off between the two did not take place at ringside, despite fan anticipation.
After years of near-misses and negotiations dating back to both fighters’ primes, the bout is now finally agreed. Fury has previously described the encounter as “The Battle of Britain,” highlighting the magnitude of the rivalry.
In terms of records, Joshua has secured 29 wins with 26 knockouts in 33 professional fights, alongside four defeats. Fury holds 35 wins, including 24 knockouts, one draw, and two losses from 38 bouts. Both fighters have previously been defeated by unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, adding further context to their respective careers.
The upcoming clash is expected to be one of the biggest events in modern boxing history, finally settling one of the sport’s most prolonged rivalries.
