Anthony Joshua has revealed he will undergo a minor elbow operation in May as part of his recovery plan before returning to the boxing ring. The former two-time world heavyweight champion has been inactive since his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September. Joshua, now 35, explained that the procedure would keep him out of training for six to eight weeks, after which he aims to begin preparations for a comeback.
Joshua, who has a record of 28 wins from 32 professional fights, was seen ringside in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he watched Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez earn a points victory over William Scull. Although currently sidelined, Joshua remains a prominent figure in the sport, and speculation about a future bout with Tyson Fury continues.
Promoter Eddie Hearn recently expressed optimism about the potential fight, suggesting that a simple social media message between the two could set the wheels in motion, despite Fury’s previous claim that he had retired.
Joshua’s boxing journey began with a gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics and saw him quickly rise to the top of the professional ranks. He became a unified world champion by 2018 and later regained his titles from Andy Ruiz Jr. before losing them to Oleksandr Usyk. As he recovers from surgery, fans await news of his next opponent and the possible revival of the long-discussed showdown with Fury.
