Anthony Joshua has downplayed the significance of finally securing a deal for a heavyweight showdown with rival Tyson Fury, insisting that success will only be measured by victory in the ring. Speaking on Monday, Joshua said signing a contract offers no satisfaction on its own, stressing that true achievement comes only after winning the fight.
The long-anticipated all-British heavyweight clash between Joshua and Fury is expected to take place later this year, potentially in November. However, both fighters are set to take part in separate tune-up bouts before meeting each other. Joshua is scheduled to face Albanian boxer Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on July 25.
The bout will mark Joshua’s first appearance since a car accident in Nigeria in December 2024 that claimed the lives of two close friends. Originally planned for Riyadh, the event has now been moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s second-largest city.
Meanwhile, Fury has hinted at his own return after sharing training footage from Thailand on social media. The former world champion suggested he could fight on August 1 in Dublin, Ireland, as part of a card being organized by veteran promoter Frank Warren. While no opponent has been announced, Warren has dismissed the possibility of Fury facing Andy Ruiz Jr..
Joshua emphasized that his immediate priority is preparing for Prenga rather than looking ahead to Fury. He explained that having a clear schedule and set objectives provides motivation and direction, allowing him to remain focused on each step of his career progression.
The former heavyweight champion described boxing as his profession and said he approaches every fight as part of a structured plan. According to Joshua, his roadmap includes defeating Prenga, securing a showdown with Fury, and eventually competing for another world title.
Joshua has not faced a top-level opponent since suffering a knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. Despite the challenges ahead, he said he is fully committed to the demanding year in front of him and has been training intensely with a clear understanding of his goals.
