Alex Pereira Denies Retirement Tweet, Says Twitter Account Was Hacked

Posted : 08 May 2025

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has denied making a social media post suggesting he was considering retirement, claiming his Twitter account was hacked. The 37-year-old Brazilian had last competed in March, where he lost his title to Magomed Ankalaev, and discussions are reportedly ongoing for a potential rematch between the two fighters.

On Wednesday, a tweet from Pereira's official account expressed frustration with the UFC and hinted at stepping away from the sport, stating he was "disheartened" and had "thoughts of not fighting any more."

The post quickly stirred speculation among fans and media, given Pereira’s status as one of the UFC’s most prominent stars. However, the situation took a turn when Pereira addressed the issue via a video on Instagram, clarifying the message wasn’t from him.

Speaking in Portuguese, Pereira explained that he had no knowledge of the tweet and hadn’t posted on Twitter in some time. He emphasized that he has a strong relationship with the UFC and suggested that someone with malicious intent had accessed his account.

Pereira assured his followers he would resolve the hacking issue and dismissed any rumors of a falling-out with the organization.
