Young boxing prospect Abdulahi Robiu produced a masterful performance at the 146th edition of the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame monthly show. The highly anticipated grassroots event took place over the weekend at the regular boxing arena inside the Agege Stadium. Promising amateur fighters from various developmental clubs across Lagos State converged to showcase their skills in front of a lively crowd.
Competing in the headline bout of the men’s 70kg category, the Yaba-based Possible Boxing Club representative completely dominated his opponent, Favour Eze. Robiu utilized superior ring generalship, sharp combinations, and defensive agility to control all three rounds. The judges ringside rewarded his clinical boxing display with a well-deserved 5-0 unanimous decision victory.
Nicknamed “Successful,” an ecstatic Robiu expressed intense gratitude during his post-fight media interview. He thanked his coaching staff and dedicated supporters for pushing him to secure the career milestone. The young boxer also commended the organizers for maintaining the monthly developmental platform. He noted that the consistent schedule provides vital ring experience for upcoming fighters trying to establish their careers.
The action-packed boxing card delivered great drama across a total of 10 matches, which included two special youth exhibition bouts. In the men’s 75kg division, Lawal Ismail outclassed Ojichukwu Obi to secure another comprehensive unanimous decision win. The women’s 70kg weight class featured a far closer tactical battle; Sarah Akinola narrowly edged out Adah Obi via a split decision.
Similarly, Muiz Ogunshola dug deep to grind out a close 3-2 split decision victory over Ismailia Sanusi in the men’s 65kg category. Abdulahi Adebayo also displayed tremendous grit and polished counter-punching technique to overcome a tough challenge from Michael Jeremiah. In the flyweight ranks, Quadri Obayemi stopped Bright Majekodunmi in the men’s 55kg bout, while Owolabi Opeyemi dominated Kola Ogunsemore in the 60kg class.
The men's 50kg division ended in controversial fashion when Daniel Daramola was awarded the victory following the technical disqualification of Habeeb Adebayo. Experienced grassroots boxing handlers highlighted the overall sporting impact of the tournament. Head coach Abdulhakeem Yinus of AY Gold Boxing Club explained that the amateur platform remains the premier crucible for forging future national champions. He emphasized that the tournament's long-term consistency ensures Lagos will continue producing elite pugilists capable of winning international medals.
