150th LBHF Divisional Championships Set to Thrill Yaba

Rowe Park in Yaba will host the 150th edition of the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame Divisional Championships on Saturday, September 26. The milestone event will bring boxers from across Lagos to the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre.

The monthly competition is organised by the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame in partnership with the Lagos State Boxing Association. It is part of an ongoing grassroots programme designed to identify and develop amateur boxing talent across the state.

The championship covers Lagos' five divisions: Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe. Boxers compete for divisional honours and the opportunity to qualify for the prestigious end-of-year Governor's Belt competition.

The LBHF was founded in 2010 by former Minister of Finance Wale Edun. The organisation has developed the monthly tournament into a regular platform for amateur boxers across different weight categories.

The series is traditionally held on the last Saturday of every month. The 150th edition will feature 10 competitive bouts alongside two exhibition contests involving secondary school students.

The school exhibitions will feature 40kg contests for boys and girls. Soliat Issa of Guest Senior Secondary School will face Josaino Ayodeji of Onike Senior Secondary School in the girls' bout, while Habibu Idowu of Elegbata Secondary School will meet Habudulai Nurudeen of Alimujadu Secondary School in the boys' contest.

The women's programme will feature Aminat Tajudeen of Yaba LCDA against Rokibat Alayande of Lagos West LCDA in the 50kg category. Rukayat Bello of Yaba LCDA will also face Daramola Balogun of Mainland LG in the 60kg division.

The men's card includes Olorunjuwon Bello against Hammed Oyeyemi at 50kg and Kola Ogunsemore versus Gbolahan Abdulraman at 60kg. Rasheed Tajudeen and Habeeb Ajisola will meet in the 65kg category.

Other scheduled bouts include Abdulahi Robin against Adeola Aiyegboyin at 70kg and Ibrahim Akolade versus Isah Jimoh at 75kg. The 80kg contest between Quam Adesanya and Fawaz Alato will close the main card.

LBHF Director David Mohammed said competition has become increasingly intense as fighters target places in the Governor's Belt. He also noted that the IBILE divisional structure is now producing representatives for the year-end competition.

The championship has become a regular fixture in Lagos' grassroots sports calendar. Its 150th edition will combine competitive boxing with youth exhibitions as the programme continues its focus on developing new talent.
