WNBA Tour: Minnesota Lynx rally late to hand D’Tigress second defeat

Posted : 30 April 2026

Nigeria’s D’Tigress came up short for the second time on their U.S. tour, losing 88–79 to the Minnesota Lynx, but not without leaving a strong impression in a fiercely competitive exhibition clash.

In a game that highlighted both promise and progress, the African champions took the fight to their WNBA opponents early, showing improved chemistry and confidence.

D’Tigress dictated stretches of the first half and even opened up a 42–38 lead in the second quarter, underlining their growing rhythm on both ends of the floor.

The tide, however, turned after the break. The Lynx leaned on their depth and experience, tightening defensively and executing with greater efficiency in key moments to pull away in the closing stages and secure the win.

Captain Ezinne Kalu led Nigeria’s charge with a game-high 25 points, delivering a composed and influential performance. Gabby Williams added 16 points and made her presence felt across the court, while the team showed improved balance with multiple contributors stepping up.

For the Lynx, Courtney Williams paced the scoring with 17 points, while rookie Olivia Miles impressed with an all-around display, finishing with 11 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Although the result leaves D’Tigress at 0–2 on the tour, the outing offered clear signs of development. Their sharper ball movement, stronger defensive structure, and ability to compete deep into the game against elite opposition point to a team steadily finding its footing.

Attention now shifts to their next test against the Indiana Fever on May 2, where D’Tigress will aim to translate their growing confidence into a winning performance.

While victories have remained elusive, the trajectory suggests a team building momentum at the right time as preparations intensify for major international assignments.

The performance against the Lynx serves as a significant benchmark for the African champions as they continue to test themselves against the world's best. By maintaining this level of intensity and refining their late-game execution, D'Tigress remain on a promising path toward peak form for their upcoming global challenges.
