Warriors Without Stephen Curry, Porzingis Set for Debut Against Celtics

Posted : 19 February 2026

The Golden State Warriors will begin their post–All-Star break schedule without star guard Stephen Curry, who continues to recover from swelling and pain in his right knee. The exact timeline for Curry’s return remains uncertain, as he recently reported that his knee still isn’t ready for live game action.

Coach Steve Kerr confirmed that Curry returned to practice Wednesday night but did not feel prepared to participate in scrimmages, and further evaluations, including a possible MRI, may be needed to determine his readiness. Curry has already missed the last five games before the break due to the lingering knee issue, and both he and the team are approaching his return with caution.

On a more positive note, high-profile acquisition Kristaps Porzingis is expected to make his Warriors debut against the Celtics. Porzingis, who was officially listed as questionable, expressed confidence in his readiness to play after working with the team during the break.

The former Atlanta Hawks player, acquired in a trade that sent Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to Atlanta, has had a limited season with only 17 games due to illness and Achilles tendinitis. The Warriors plan to integrate Porzingis gradually, with short bursts of playing time off the bench alongside Al Horford, his former Boston teammate.

Porzingis reflected on the unusual experience of facing the Celtics so soon after joining the Warriors, calling it “weird” but embracing the challenge. The coaching staff has focused on creating proper spacing around his post-up plays, while Porzingis praised the simplicity of the offense and the chemistry he enjoyed with Draymond Green during Wednesday’s scrimmage.

Golden State enters the matchup with a 29‑26 record, currently sitting eighth in the Western Conference standings, navigating both the challenge of Curry’s absence and the excitement of integrating a new talent in Porzingis as they look to climb the playoff ladder.
