Warriors Strengthen Coaching Staff by Hiring NBA Champion Frank Vogel

The Golden State Warriors have strengthened their coaching staff by appointing veteran NBA coach Frank Vogel as associate head coach under Steve Kerr. The move fills the vacancy created by the departure of Terry Stotts and marks one of Golden State's most significant coaching additions ahead of the new NBA season.

Vogel, 53, brings a wealth of experience to the Warriors after serving as an NBA head coach for 12 seasons with the Indiana Pacers, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns. His coaching résumé includes leading the Lakers to the 2020 NBA championship and guiding the Pacers to consecutive Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2013 and 2014.

His most recent head coaching role came with the Phoenix Suns during the 2023-24 campaign, where he posted a 49-33 regular-season record before the team was eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs. Since then, Vogel has spent the past two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, initially as a coaching consultant before moving into a full-time assistant coaching role.

Golden State's coaching staff has undergone significant changes this offseason. Alongside Stotts' departure, assistant coach Jerry Stackhouse also left the organisation, while longtime assistant Chris DeMarco departed earlier this year to become head coach of the WNBA's New York Liberty. Vogel's arrival is expected to provide valuable stability and championship experience to Kerr's bench.

Known as one of the NBA's top defensive minds, Vogel is expected to take a leading role in the Warriors' defensive game planning. His expertise is seen as an ideal complement to Kerr's offensive philosophy as Golden State looks to return to championship contention after a disappointing 2025-26 season.

The addition of Vogel signals the Warriors' determination to maximize the latter stages of Stephen Curry's career by surrounding the team with experienced leadership and proven tactical expertise. His championship pedigree and defensive acumen are expected to play a key role as Golden State reshapes its coaching structure for the upcoming campaign.
