Victor Wembanyama Out for Spurs’ NBA Cup Quarterfinal Against Lakers

San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama will not play in Wednesday night’s NBA Cup quarterfinal against the Los Angeles Lakers. The third-year forward has been sidelined with a left calf strain since the Spurs’ loss to the Golden State Warriors on November 14.

Despite Wembanyama’s absence, the Spurs have performed admirably, winning eight of the 11 games he has missed. This includes two victories in NBA Cup group play, which secured their spot in the quarterfinals.

Wembanyama is enjoying a career-best season, averaging 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game, while leading the league with 3.6 blocks per contest. However, he must manage his remaining games carefully, as he can appear in only five more regular-season contests to meet the 65-game threshold required for end-of-season award eligibility.

The Spurs will look to continue their strong run without their standout player as they face the Lakers in a pivotal NBA Cup matchup.
