Rwanda's APR Basketball Faces Challenges as Ulrich Chomche Prepares for NBA Draft

Posted : 07 May 2024

Ulrich Chomche, set to represent Rwanda's Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) in this year's Basketball Africa League (BAL), has been excluded from their roster for the Sahara Conference in Dakar due to his preparations for the upcoming NBA Draft. The Cameroonian center/power forward, who showcased his talents at the Nike Hoop Summit and received an NBA Draft Combine invitation, remains focused on his NBA aspirations, leaving APR to compete in the BAL without him as they vie for a spot in the playoffs.

APR finds themselves in Dakar for the Sahara Conference, aiming to secure a place in the BAL playoffs scheduled in Kigali. Despite Chomche's absence, APR head coach Mazen Trackh remains confident in the team's ability to perform, acknowledging Chomche's potential as a first-round NBA pick. While Chomche's departure poses a challenge for APR, they are determined to push forward with their remaining players and strive for success in the league.

Chomche's journey from the BAL to the NBA Draft has garnered attention, with notable figures like former NBA player Joakim Noah recognizing his talent and potential. As APR adapts to Chomche's absence, they look to players like Mouhamed Camara to fill the void left by the departing stars. Despite facing setbacks, APR remains focused on their goals, navigating through the BAL with determination and resilience.
