Indiana Pacers standout Tyrese Haliburton is expected to miss the entire 2025–26 NBA season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon during Game 7 of the NBA Finals. The 25-year-old guard went down without contact early in the first quarter against the Oklahoma City Thunder, visibly in pain as he was assisted off the court. The Pacers would go on to lose the game 103-91, ending their bid for a maiden NBA title on a somber note.
Haliburton is scheduled to undergo surgery on the torn tendon, with medical professionals estimating a recovery period of eight to ten months. The injury marks a significant blow not just for the Pacers but for the NBA at large, as he becomes the third major star to suffer an Achilles rupture during the playoffs, joining Boston’s Jayson Tatum and Milwaukee’s Damian Lillard. The severity of the injury draws comparisons to Kevin Durant’s 2019 setback, which sidelined him for an entire season.
Despite a nagging calf strain sustained earlier in the finals, Haliburton had continued to play and was instrumental throughout the postseason, earning praise for clutch performances, including multiple game-tying or winning shots.
Following his surgery, Haliburton shared an emotional message on social media, reflecting on the heartbreak of his injury and expressing his enduring dedication to his team and city. "Words cannot express the pain of this letdown," he wrote. "I've worked my whole life to get to this moment and this is how it ends?"
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle praised Haliburton’s resilience and leadership, expressing confidence in the young star's future. “What happened with Tyrese, all of our hearts dropped,” said Carlisle. “But he will be back in time, and I believe he’ll make a full recovery.” The Pacers and their fans now look ahead to a season without their dynamic leader while hoping for his eventual return to full strength.
