Twelve Elite Stars to Watch as the 2026 BAL Sahara Conference Tips Off in Rabat

Posted : 23 April 2026

The countdown to the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL) Sahara Conference is nearly over. Fans and scouts are preparing to watch a talent-heavy roster of athletes compete in Rabat. This year’s lineup features a mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars ready to make their mark on the continental stage.

Among the headliners is Solo Diabate of ASC Ville de Dakar. Diabate remains the only player in this conference with two BAL championship titles to his name. His leadership and ability to control the tempo of a game make him a vital asset for the Senegalese champions. He is joined by teammate Axel Toupane, a former NBA champion with the Milwaukee Bucks. Toupane brings elite versatile defense and high-level experience to the Dakar squad.

Al Ahly enters the tournament with a formidable backcourt featuring Ehab Amin and Zachary Lofton. Amin has been the heartbeat of Egyptian basketball for over a decade and played a central role in Al Ahly’s 2023 title run. Lofton adds explosive scoring power, having previously led the scoring charts during the Road to BAL qualifiers. The Egyptian side also features Jonathan Jordan, a prolific playmaker who once won the G League Dunk Contest.

The North African challenge is bolstered by Club Africain’s Omar Abada and Jesse Jones Jr. Abada is a two-time AfroBasket winner looking for his first BAL trophy in his fourth season. Jones Jr. has successfully transitioned from a social media basketball sensation to a professional point guard with a high scoring appetite. FUS Rabat will rely on the perimeter shooting of Moroccan international Ayoub Nouhi and the record-breaking capabilities of Will Perry. Perry famously tied the league’s scoring record with a 41-point performance in 2023.

West African representation remains strong with players like Jawadi Adekoya of Maktown Flyers and Jonathan Cisse of JCA Kings. Adekoya led the scoring for the Kwara Falcons in 2023 and provides a physical presence on both ends of the floor. Cisse proved his value during the Road to BAL qualifiers, where his catch-and-shoot ability helped the Kings secure seven wins. Chris Crawford also joins JCA Kings as a veteran shooting threat who has reached two previous BAL finals.

These twelve athletes represent the diversity of talent in African basketball today. With secondary stars like Kevin Murphy and Deng Deng also in the mix, the Sahara Conference promises high-intensity action. The competition serves as a critical bridge for players aiming to cement their legacy on the continent.
