Nigeria’s representatives at the 2025 Africa Women Basketball League (AWBL), First Bank Basketball Club, concluded their continental campaign with a 10th-place finish as the tournament wrapped up in Egypt.
The Elephant Girls faced a challenging group-stage schedule that ultimately prevented them from qualifying for the knockout rounds. Consecutive defeats to Mozambique’s Ferroviario de Maputo and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) left them with minimal margin for error heading into their final group match.
First Bank displayed resilience in their last group game, narrowly defeating Cameroon’s FAP in a tightly contested battle. However, the victory was not enough to secure progression to the next stage of the competition.
In the classification round, FAP reversed the result, defeating First Bank 48–42, relegating the Nigerian champions to 10th position in the overall standings.
At the top of the standings, defending champions Ferroviario de Maputo continued their strong run and will face host club Al Ahly Sporting Club in the championship final, promising a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 AWBL.
