Tobi Owolabi Commits to Stetson University After Junior D’Tigress Run

Junior D’Tigress guard Tobi Owolabi has committed to Stetson University ahead of the upcoming NCAA season, marking an important step in the Nigerian youngster’s basketball career.

Owolabi represented Nigeria at the 2026 FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket and emerged as one of the team's important offensive players during the continental tournament. She averaged 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 31 percent from three-point range.

The Nigerian guard produced several strong individual performances during the competition. She scored 13 points against Senegal during the group stage and later delivered an even bigger performance in the final against Mali, finishing with 19 points and four rebounds.

Nigeria ultimately finished the tournament with the silver medal after losing to Mali in the final. Despite the defeat, the Junior D’Tigress secured another strong continental showing and earned a place among the teams advancing from the African competition.

Owolabi's performances have now opened the door to the next stage of her development in the United States. Her commitment to Stetson University will give the young guard the opportunity to combine higher education with NCAA basketball.

She will join the Stetson Hatters as she continues to develop her game against a new level of collegiate competition. The move also gives her access to a structured basketball program and an environment where she can build on the international experience gained with Nigeria.
